DeCourceys Wedding Venue

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! 2016 was a phenomenal year for us, and we thoroughly enjoyed helping you all plan your big day. Congratulations to all of our fabulous couples who tied the knot in 2016!

Back in April, we had the privilege of hosting the beautiful wedding of Carly and Andy. As one of our favourite cake suppliers (the one and only Wish Upon A Cupcake!), we were delighted that they chose to spend their big day at the manor. It truly was a non-stop party from beginning to end, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house watching Carly walk down the aisle!

Today she shares with us her wedding planning experiences, alongside her gorgeous wedding pictures taken by her best friend, Leah Roberts! Enjoy! xx

Tell us all about your proposal!
Andy proposed to me on Christmas Day 2009. He wrapped the engagement ring in a huge cardboard box so I wouldn’t guess what it was. It was a complete surprise and of course I said yes.

How did you begin the wedding planning process?
Well, we’d originally planned to get married in 2013 but not long after we’d set the date, I found out I was pregnant with little Jakey so we decided to postpone. After 9 years of being together we eventually decided to make it official and thought what better time to do it than on our 10 year anniversary.

Why did you choose De Courceys Manor as the venue for your big day?
As wedding suppliers we get to work with lots of venues and their wedding teams. De Courceys Manor has ALWAYS been the venue we said we’d hold our wedding. The team are fantastic, the food is outstanding and the fact that the whole venue was exclusively ours really appealed to us. We definitely chose the best venue in our opinion and all of our guests gave amazing feedback on the venue, food and staff.

Why did you pick your photographer?
Leah Roberts Photography is my best friend so it was only natural that we had her and her hubby Oli to capture our special day. They were fantastic from start to finish and we felt so relaxed having our photos taken. The results speak for themselves really!

Who made your cake?
Another best friend! I did contemplate making the cake myself, but after deciding I didn’t want the stress of doing it the week before the wedding, I asked our good friends, Tracy and Rob from Cotton & Crumbs to do it for us. As you saw, they did an incredible job, and the whole display blew us away! Our guests couldn’t stop looking at it and all said how lovely it tasted. We can’t thank them enough for our amazing cake display.

What did you choose for your wedding menu?
We gave our guests a choice for the starter, either the parsnip soup or the melon balls (both were amazing!), our main course was supreme of chicken with the chorizo and sun blushed tomato sauce, served with roasted parsnips, roast potatoes and vegetables. The dessert – OH MY GOD – it was to die for! We had the creme brûlée, and it was honestly the best thing I’ve ever tasted! All of our guests were really wowed by the food, it was delicious!

Tell us all about your wedding dress!
Aw my dress! I bought my dress from Danielle at Miss Darcey Bridal Boutique in Bridgend, and the whole experience from start to finish was just magical. Nothing was too much trouble (even when I had a dress wobble) and everything was just perfect. I also bought my pretty shoes and veil from Danielle too.

Was there a particular theme or colour scheme for your big day?
Yes we had a blush pink, ivory and a champagne gold colour scheme. The amazing Chair Covers and Bows supplied our gorgeous chairs!

Did you make any of your wedding décor by hand?
I made the cake pops! And I made some of the jars for the flowers so not really a lot. To be honest, I spend so much time planning everyone else’s weddings that I decided I wanted to take a step back with mine and chose the very best suppliers to take care of everything for us. I don’t regret this decision at all as every single one of them went above and beyond all expectations we had and made our day just perfect.

Did you add any quirky or unusual touches to your big day?
We had a popcorn bar! Something I saw on Pinterest that I decided to have a go at. We had gingerbread latte, strawberry cheesecake, cheese on toast, mozzarella with olive oil and peanut butter flavour popcorn which was a bit different! We also made a feature of the bay window in the reception room and attached pom poms and confetti garlands to the curtains to really make our cake display stand out. Our tables were named after items we make i.e. cupcakes, cake pops etc. and each one had a love quote on it too. I tried to make everything about our wedding personal to us and I think it turned out ok!

How did you decide on your ceremony music, and first dance, and why did you choose these songs?
Andy actually chose the ‘walking down the aisle’ music after we watched the Lloyds advert where Birdy – Wings was playing. He suggested how nice it would be for me to walk down the aisle to and I agreed. I loved the lyrics in it. Similarly, we chose A Thousand Years by Christina Perri for the signing of the register because it means a lot to us and the lyrics are perfect. For walking out we chose McFly – Love is Easy. I wanted something a bit more upbeat and fun and this song was exactly that. Our first dance was Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran. We loved how the song was actually about a first dance and chose it as our first dance song as soon as we booked the wedding! We had John Adams and his band to play our first dance for us and it was AMAZING!

What was your favourite part of the wedding planning process?
Honestly? I found it a tad stressful trying to plan a wedding and run a business at the same time but once I was in the flow of it I loved working with everyone we chose. I loved putting our stamp on everything and choosing exactly what we wanted from suppliers that we knew were reliable and amazing. There is nothing I would change about our wedding at all!

Can you pass on any essential wedding planning advice?
My advice would be for you to do your research on your suppliers and really take your time to make sure that you are booking the best people for the job. A lot of venues have a recommended suppliers list so take a look at those and also look at reviews, take the time to meet your suppliers and view their work. Also, just enjoy it! It all goes so fast.

Do you have any funny stories from your big day?
I thought our bridesmaids had got lost getting to the venue! Ha! They left the house before us and were a good 10 minutes later than us arriving at the venue due to traffic and a slight detour. All was good in the end but I did have visions of having to get married without them! I also fell over on the dance floor in the night while I was dancing quite vigorously to Gangnam Style with my boys. I’d been out in the rain for photos so my shoes and dress were soaking and I slipped in front of a room full of people! I just laughed it off and carried on dancing!
What are the most memorable parts of your wedding day?
The whole day was memorable! Marrying my best friend, spending the day with our family and friends and eating the most amazing food! I honestly can’t pick out individual memories because it was all just perfect. Huge thanks to the fantastic team at De Courceys who are like a well-oiled machine. Everything ran without a hitch and nothing was too much trouble for any of you. We cannot thank you enough xx
